Chicken piccata is chicken in piccata sauce. It consists of sliced meat, in this case, chicken, and sauce.

What Is Piccata Sauce Made Of?

The piccata sauce is made of lemon juice, capers, and butter. It is reduced and poured over cooked chicken. It is delicious and full of flavor.

  • Chicken Breasts: The chicken will be cut in half lengthwise for this recipe.
  • Flour, Salt, Pepper, and Garlic Powder: Mix these ingredients together. Then, lightly dredge both sides of the chicken in it.
  • Olive Oil: Is used to cook the chicken in the pan.
  • Light Butter: Is used to saute the shallots and create the sauce.
  • Shallot: One shallot is used in this recipe.
  • Chicken Broth: Adds flavor to the dish and is part of the sauce.
  • Lemon Juice: Use fresh lemon juice for the piccata sauce.
  • Capers: Drained capers are used in the sauce.
  • Parsley: Chopped flat-leaf parsley is sprinkled on top of the dish once done.
  • Parmesan: Grate the parmesan cheese over the dish once done.

Dredge The Chicken In Flour

For this recipe, the chicken is lightly dredged with flour on both sides. Instead of just dredging the chicken in flour, we added some seasonings to the flour. We added some salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the flour. This adds flavor and seasoning to the dish.

How To Make Chicken Piccata

First, cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise.

Next, in a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. After that, dredge both sides of the chicken in the flour mixture.

Then, add the olive oil and chicken breasts to the pan. Cook the chicken on both sides. Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the pan and let it rest.

Lemon Chicken Piccata

After that, add the light butter and diced shallots to the pan. Then, cook the shallots.

Next, add the lemon juice and chicken broth to the pan with the shallots. After that, drain the capers and add them to the pan. Then, allow these ingredients to simmer, reduce, and thicken. Stir the ingredients occasionally while they are simmering.

How To Serve Chicken Piccata

To serve chicken piccata, place the cooked chicken on a plate. Then, top it with the piccata sauce, chopped flat-leaf, and some freshly grated parmesan. Also, you can garnish the dish with lemon slices.

This is the ultimate healthy chicken piccata recipe! It is so delicious with the lemon, capers, shallots, and butter sauce over top of your seasoned chicken.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, about 1.5 lbs

  • 1/4 CUP flour

  • 1/2 TSP salt

  • 1/4 TSP pepper

  • 1/2 TSP garlic powder

  • 3 TSP olive oil

  • 1 TBSP light butter

  • 1 shallot, diced

  • 1/2 CUP chicken broth

  • 2 TBSP fresh lemon juice

  • 3 TBSP capers, drained

  • 1/4 CUP chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

  • 2 TBSP grated parmesan cheese

Directions

  • Cut the boneless skinless chicken breasts in half lengthwise down the center. Also, dice the shallot.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Dredge both sides of the chicken in the flour mixture.
  • Place a pan over medium heat on the stove. Then, add the olive oil and chicken breasts to the pan. Cook the chicken for about 3-4 minutes. Then, flip it and cook it on the other side for about 3-4 minutes, or until fully cooked.
  • Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the pan and let it rest. After that, add the light butter and diced shallots to the pan. Cook the shallots for 2-3 minutes, or until translucent.
  • Add the lemon juice to the pan with the shallots and remove any brown bits from the pan. Then, add the chicken broth. After that, drain the capers and add them to the pan. Allow these ingredients to simmer, reduce, and thicken to your desired consistency for 3-5 minutes. Stir while it is simmering. Optional: To thicken the sauce even more add one tablespoon of flour mixed with some water. Thoroughly combine the flour and water mixture, add it to the pan, and continue to stir it in.
  • Place the cooked chicken on a plate. Top it with the sauce in the pan, chopped flat-leaf parsley, and grated parmesan cheese. Feel free to garnish with lemon slices and enjoy!
