Expert Tips

  • Drain the Cottage Cheese: If your cottage cheese is runny or has excess liquid, it’s important to drain it before using it in the recipe. Place the cottage cheese in a fine mesh strainer and let it sit over a bowl for a few minutes to remove the extra moisture. This helps ensure your mousse stays thick and creamy.
  • Sweeten to Taste: Adjust the sweetness based on your strawberries. You can add an extra teaspoon of sweetener or more if needed.
  • Defrost the Whipped Topping: Follow the directions on the package to defrost the frozen whipped topping in the refrigerator before folding it in.
  • Gently Fold: Don’t blend the whipped topping with the rest of the ingredients. Instead, lightly fold it in so the mousse stays light and airy.
  • Chill: Refrigerate the mousse for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow it to fully set and develop the best texture.

Serving Suggestions

Once chilled, enjoy your strawberry mousse as is or with sliced fresh strawberries or your berries of choice, a drizzle of chocolate, chocolate shavings, or mini chocolate chips. For extra crunch and flavor, try it with our homemade peanut butter granola with PB2, chopped nuts, coconut flakes, or crushed graham crackers.

Storage Instructions

Store this strawberry mousse in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. We like to portion individual servings in containers or jars.

I was craving something fruity. I found this recipe and sounded so good. I didn’t have any form of cool whip. I just blended the cottage with some partially defrosted frozen strawberries and added some allulose (sugar substitute) and it was delicious that way too! I’m sure the cool whip would add a creamer consistency, but this was good enough for me. Healthy dessert! Thank you!
