How To Make Healthy Chocolate Banana Bread

ingredients for chocolate banana bread

To make these delicious and healthy chocolate banana bread muffins, add the unsweetened apple sauce, vanilla extract, and 2 eggs to a bowl. Then, thoroughly mix all of the ingredients together. After that, add the 4 bananas to the bowl and mash them with a fork, spatula, or potato masher. Make sure that all of the ingredients are combined and smooth. Next, get another bowl for the dry ingredients and add the monk fruit or sugar to it. Then, sift the flour, cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder), and baking soda into the bowl. Then, add the salt.

After that, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients a little at a time and mix until they are thoroughly combined. Then, add the mini chocolate chips to the bowl and fold them in. You can save some of the chocolate chips to put on top of the muffins before baking. Next, lightly spray a silicone baking pan with oil and pour the banana bread batter into it. Bake the chocolate banana bread muffins at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes and enjoy!

A Few Notes & Tips

How To Make Sugar-Free Chocolate Banana Bread

This recipe is relatively sugar-free because we have used monk fruit instead of sugar. However, if you want to make this chocolate banana bread completely sugar-free, you could use Lily’s chocolate chips. Lily’s chocolate chips are great because they don’t have any sugar in them.

What’s The Difference Between Cacao and Cocoa Powder?

Cacao powder is fermented and not roasted at high temperatures like cocoa powder. This means that cacao is processed at low temperatures and still contains the nutritional properties of the cacao seed. Cocoa powder is processed at a much higher temperature and is often alkalized to reduce acidity. This is what we call Dutch-processed chocolate. Therefore, cocoa powder will not be as bitter as cacao from this process. Also, cacao and cocoa both come from the cacao bean. Both options are great when it comes to this chocolate banana bread. We love giving you options!

    1. I’ve never used monk fruit before and not sure how available it is near me. I found monk fruit blend online at target. It’s main ingredient is listed as erythritol. Is this the wrong product? Is there another sugar replacement that might work instead? Thank you!

      • Hi Kara, I like to use Lakanto Monkfruit and I believe you found the right product at target. You can also use stevia, honey, or sugar. All will work great. Whatever you like to use to sweeten things up. Let me know if you need more info.
