This healthy bacon cheeseburger is Ella’s favorite! We thought of this recipe when we were driving in the car one day and talking about what we should make for summer. This was Ella’s invention and I have to say it’s delicious!

Ella here! I love burgers and bacon, I mean really what’s not to love? I thought it would be a great idea to put the bacon inside the burger with some cheese and add more cheese on top. Ella’s tip: Add an extra piece of bacon on top of your burger for even more bacon deliciousness! Now, I had a great idea but it was up to my mom to make my creation healthy. This burger is 100% Ella-approved. It has all the flavors I wanted in a bacon cheeseburger but lightened up! We hope you enjoy this easy and delicious bacon cheeseburger as much as we do!

How To Cook Bacon In The Oven

To cook bacon in the oven, place two slices of bacon on a sheet pan with parchment paper. After that, cook it in the oven at 400 degrees F for 20-22 minutes.

We recommend cooking the bacon in the oven because it’s super easy, doesn’t make a mess, and is fast to clean up. After trying this method you will never want to cook bacon in a pan again! It’s great because you don’t have to spend time cooking the bacon and you can just stick it in the oven while you get the rest of your burger ready.

How To Make Healthy Bacon Cheeseburgers

Ingredients for a healthy bacon cheeseburger

Start by cooking the bacon in the oven. While it is cooking, add the salt, cracked pepper, granulated garlic, and shredded light cheese into a bowl with the lean ground beef. Then, crumble the cooked bacon into the bowl and combine all of the ingredients. Next, form 8 burger patties with the meat.

Cook the burgers on a grill pan or barbecue and grill them to your liking. Then, add the cheddar cheese slices to the top of your sliders. Top the burgers with your favorite condiments and bun of choice.

How To Freeze The Burgers For Meal Prep

These bacon cheeseburger sliders are perfect for meal prep! They are great to freeze and have on hand for later. I like taking parchment paper (it helps with freezer burn) and wrapping the burgers in the parchment paper before putting them into a stasher bag or ziplock bag. I like using stasher bags because they are reusable. Stasher bags are made from platinum silicone which doesn’t degrade over time. They can be used in the freezer, microwave, oven, or dishwasher.

This healthy bacon cheeseburger is packed with flavor and we have lightened it up. It’s easy to make and it’s Ella’s favorite burger!

Ingredients

  • 16 oz lean ground beef

  • 1/2 TSP salt

  • fresh cracked pepper

  • 1/2 TSP granulated garlic

  • 1/3 CUP shredded Trader Joe’s light Mexican cheese (or light cheddar)

  • 2 slices of thick-cut bacon (substitute for turkey bacon or any bacon you want)

  • 2 slices of light cheddar cheese (cut slices into 4 pieces each)

Directions

  • To make these bacon cheeseburgers, start by cooking the bacon. We recommend cooking the bacon in the oven because it’s super easy, doesn’t make a mess, and is fast to clean up. Place two slices of bacon on a sheet pan with parchment paper. Then, cook the bacon in the oven at 400 degrees F for 20-22 minutes.
  • While the bacon is cooking, add the salt, cracked pepper, granulated garlic, and shredded light cheese into a bowl with the lean ground beef. Once the bacon is cooked, let it cool and then crumble it into the bowl. Then, thoroughly combine all of the ingredients.
  • Form 8 slider patties with the meat. Keep in mind that each slider is a little more than 2 ounces so you could use it on a regular burger bun as well. Feel free to make the burgers any size you want.
  • Cook the burgers on a grill pan or barbecue and grill them to your liking. We used a grill pan to cook ours on medium heat for 3- 3 ½ minutes on each side. After that, we added cheddar cheese slices to the top of our sliders. Then, we lowered the heat of the pan and covered the sliders with a lid of a pan to melt the cheese. Top the burgers with your favorite condiments and bun of choice. Ella likes to add some tomatoes, lettuce, and extra bacon to her sliders!
