Substitutions & Variations

  • Frozen Fruit Option: Frozen fruit is a great swap for fresh when making fruit-infused water because it keeps your drink extra cold and slowly releases flavor as it thaws.
  • Add Mint: We love adding fresh mint because it’s refreshing and enhances the flavor. It pairs well with lime, lemon, orange, cucumber, watermelon, strawberry, raspberry, and pineapple.

  1. Add the fruit and vegetables to water with some ice or chill your water in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. Use 2-3 total slices of fruit and vegetables per 8 oz of water, or use frozen fruit slices.

Expert Tips

  • Jar to Use: A mason jar works perfectly! You can also use an infuser bottle or a large pitcher with a built-in strainer for added convenience.
  • Wash the Fruit: Always wash your fruit thoroughly before adding it to the water.
  • Fruit to Use: For fruit-infused water, we recommend using organic fruits and vegetables when possible since they’re not grown with synthetic pesticides and go directly into your water.
  • Enjoy the Same Day: For the best flavor and freshness, enjoy your infused water the same day you make it. Letting it sit too long can cause the fruit to become bitter or mushy.
  • Freeze Fruits and Vegetables: Freezing fruits and vegetables is a great way to keep them fresh and enjoy them any time. I love buying fresh produce when it’s in season and freezing it so I can enjoy it year-round, no matter what’s in season! It also makes infused water super easy.

Serving Suggestions

You can enjoy your fruit-infused water right away by adding ice to your glass of water with fruit. Both sparkling and flat water work great. For a stronger flavor, chill the infused water in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. Either way, it’s a flavorful and incredibly refreshing drink.

Fruit Infused Water FAQs

What is the Best Fruit to Put in Water?

It depends on what flavors you love! I often go for lemon, lime, or orange for a bright citrus kick, or strawberries and blueberries when I want something sweet and fruity. Watermelon and pineapple are amazing in the summer, and apple slices with a cinnamon stick are so cozy in the fall. You can mix and match them with herbs like mint or basil for even more flavor.

How Long Should you Infuse Water with Fruit?

Infuse water with fruit for at least 30 minutes, but if you have more time 2-4 hours in the fridge gives the best flavor. Just don’t let it go too long, after 12 hours the fruit can get bitter or too soft.
